Brandy’s Look - Sept. 19, 2008

This was my look for a semi-casual day of meetings and shopping in SL. I started with the gorgeous sweater from Persona in my favorite color and then built the rest of the look around that. I wanted to keep the focus on that great neckline, so I kept everything else simple. The Rayanne hair is one of my favorites from Exile because it’s so soft and loose yet still very classic, and I thought it was the perfect fit for the mood I was in at the time. The striped pants add a little bit of extra interest rather than just going with a pair of black or gray trousers. Then the whole look is completed with my newest fashion addiction, the Button Boots from Shiny Things.

Daily Look - Sept. 19, 2008 (by Brandy Rasmuson)

Where to shop:
Hair: Rayanne in Mink from Exile
Skin: Vixen in Nutmeg from Chai
Sweater: Dita knit blouse in purple from Persona
Pants: DGrey Striped Pants from the Luuna set from Dutch Touch
Boots: Button Boots in eggplant from Shiny Things
Piercings: Piercing 5 and Silver Earrings from Magika
Necklace: Antique Sterling Locket from Genesis (That’s the slurl I have for Genesis, but I didn’t see the locket there today when I went back to check.)

Models Making Headlines: Jiraiya Tuqiri @ Boutique De Liberte

This month, Jiraiya Turqiri, former designer of the short-lived Fiertze & Co. label, bounced back to open Boutique De Liberte with co-creator Ana Boogiewoogie of Sh*t Happens. The designer duo are promoting their affordable brand of hand-drawn casuals as colourful and unisex.

All clothing items can be demo’d before purchase - a rare and refreshing option currently offered by very few clothing creators.

Though not yet established in a permanent location, potential customers can visit their growing collection at City of Sicilie (82, 82, 24) until the designers have a main store location.

The 2008 Hair Fair is fast approaching, and in preparation for this annual event benefiting Locks of Love, there was a Flickr contest in which the entrants were asked to showcase their favourite hair.

Two of our our Hathor models tied for Second Place, so we’d like to congratulate Zoe (above) and Brandy (below) on their win and terrific photos!

Models Making Headlines: Rosie Barthelmess @ Fleur

Fleur (formerly Tête a Pied/TaP) by CJ Carnot and Roslin Petion has been one of Second Life®’s most prolific skin brands. Early this month Fleur announced it would be permanently retiring 12 skins in its Vivant line as it makes room for a new product launch in the fall. To commemorate the occasion the established skin designers hosted a “Bon Voyage” Flickr contest.

Amongst Week 2’s winners is model, photographer, writer and DJ Rosie Barthelmess.

Models Making Headlines: Jarl Soderstrom @ a.C Store and DYN

Seems like someone has been working overtime.

Taking away his choice of the entire men’s (or women’s) shoes and clothing, as well as being futured in the upcoming DYN in-store promotional ad campaign is our own Jarl Soderstrom (submission above).

In the month of July cheerNo Destiny of a.C Store held a “Next Face” contest, highlighting male fashion in Second Life®. a.C Store offers clothing and skin options, and is known for its high-energy, oftentimes flambuoyant styles for men.

On July 29/08, Hathor model Jarl was once again the winner for his submission, urban (below). He takes away a chunk of Lindens as well as an exclusive limited edition DJ outfit and the opportunity to appear in store ads.

The Retrology sim has been celebrating its one-year anniversary with a series of events, challenges and contests this past week. Freebies, fashion and fun have all been part of the festivities. To highlight the occasion, owners and organizers hosted a photo contest via their Flickr group soliciting entries that capture the spirit of the sim’s retro roots.

We’re please that some of our very own models have been placed in the winner’s circle: Cherie Parker was the overall winner for her photo Visitors (below), and Brandy Rasmuson’s shot Skulls in Pink (above) landed in second place withing the fashion category. Congrats, ladies.

August 1: Movie Night

Film du Jour: Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Film du Jour: Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

The second installment of the HM movie nights. While we waffled on whether to make the event weekly or monthly we pulled out the DVD player and slipped in a flick with one of Will Ferrell’s few semi-serious roles, then sent out notice of the start time.

The comedy-drama centers around Harold Crick (Ferrell) who plays a hum-drum compulsive, obsessive auditor for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) who lives a lonely and dreary life. His clockwork daily routine is upset one day when he begins to hear a woman’s voice narrating his life.

Dress code, as always, undies or pajamas.

July 25: Movie Night

Film du Jour: Office Space (1999)

Phoenix had a great idea to have a movie night for Hathor models and friends (she snapped the above photo after a few people had left … or crashed) in our headquarters, which is still undergoing some construction - as you can see from the plywood panels.

The movie is a comedy written and directed by Mike Judge (the creator of Beavis and Butthead, and King of the Hill). Office Space satirizes work life at Initech, a software company, and is set in the 1990s. You’ve got all the typical office “character” stereotypes - which makes it easily relatable for anyone who has ever worked in an office (especially one with cubicles).

We hope to make this a regular occurrence. Maybe use it as grounds to force Phoe into finally watching anything Star Wars, Indiana Jones or Bond-related. I know, it’s a sin.
