Good Blogger Behaviour

There are laws of etiquette in blogging people, and some people on our feed here PERSIST in being bad bloggers.

1. Bumping your post’s time to remain at the top of the feed. I think this is the height of bad blogger manners, and it leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, not to mention the mouths of those who read the feed to see what’s NEW.

That’s the only one that’s really bugging me right now. You know who you are, you’ll probably bump your post to get on top of mine. How many times have you done it now?

P.S.  This is not about Sasy or her blogs, kthxbai.

    Wasn’t me! lol

My post is right below yours..and OMG that is one of my biggest pet peeves too! Especially since it’s hard to tell if I’ve already read that far or if there are newer posts underneath the bumped post! Grr.

While I don’t doubt that there are people doing this deliberately, there are genuine reasons why the time setting on some blogs will push the posts to the top of the feed. I’m in Australia, and the time settings on my blogs are Australian Eastern Standard time. If my blog is on the fashion feed, my posts will remain at the top for longer because basically from a US viewpoint, I am posting “in the future”. But should I change the time settings of my Australian blog to US time? No way. I don’t feel that America is anymore important than where I live - SL users and bloggers come from all over the world.

That said, I don’t see a valid reason for someone in the US changing the time settings of their blog to anywhere except the country they live in.

I can understand that some bloggers have different time zones and so their blogs work differently for time zones, that doesn’t bug me. I’m talking about one particular person, a “designer” in this instance, who keeps bumping her post time. Nothing whatsoever has changed in the body of the post (I checked), but the time keeps changing. It was near the top for nearly a full night and day, and it’s not the first time she’s pulled off this particular trick.

Yeah I did notice that particular blog had a post stuck right at the top for almost 2 days. Even posting from Australia, that is NOT going to happen without some, er, interference….

agreed so badly! I hate it, and when people post on two diffrent blogs the same thing. Shop release particuly. It personaly puts me off buying the items.

Tbh the people who do bump blogs seem to want attention not journalisam acolades.

The feed its self has become a joke, theres no standred and people post crap (im sure im not perfect i know i have now and then)

Call it horribly elitist but i feal there should be a standred, it encorages people to extend there tallent already.

    Just my two pence

Amen! Ugh, it drives me crazy! If I see it fifty times, I become less impressed with every viewing and you are less likely to get my lindens when I do get in world.

The feed is in European time: UTC. So being in Australia is not the reason. ;)
The feed reads the post as they are posted in the blogs.

Also, blogger has a issue with the planet site. Every time you correct something, it republishes and the feed *thinks* it’s a new post. This issue doesn’t happen in WordPress blogs. If a person using WP wants to put their post in the top of the feed has to change time and date of the post. In blogger you don’t need to change a thing; you only need to republish it over and over.

The fashion Planet is simply a feed. It’s not moderated and Tao adds blogs as people ask him.
The solution would be for everyone to have their own feed with the stuff they want to see.
It is annoying to see the same post always on the top of the feed or exactly the same post in different blogs in the same day. Like it’s the only thing happening in SL fashion world. ARGH!
Besides that, I hate to see highly pixelized pics because people let the blogging platform resize the picture and ruin the pic or simply because people don’t have a good computer and take crappy pictures over and over.

What concerns me about the feed is the problem of not being compatible with WP 2.5 blogs and only with WP 2.3 blogs. The feed doesn’t recognize the cut option in WP 2.5. I asked Tao about it and he told that the feed only reads RSS. So, the issue has to be in WP. :(

solution to blogger issues, and i tested this last week

In settings there is a feed button, that allows you the choice to show part of or all of a post as well as NOT be picked up at all, when planet refreshes it refreshes everything posted for that day.

so if you do edit something , go to settings first and then change the feed button to part of , that way when it refreshes the post and you do end up reposted , you are only posting your heading and part of the post.

if you have done something or need to actually delete a post , then change that setting to no as in it wont be picked up again at all and next time it refreshes it will be gone. just make sure you change it back the next day.

if you don’t want to show pictures of nudity etc and you think that cuts wont work , this is a way to cut , showing only part of the post means you can fill at least a paragraph with text and then the pictures will be in the full post on your blog itself for people to go to at their own discretion.

what it boils down to for the most part, is that people don’t want to visit the blogs at all , they want it all on the feed, if everyone wants to tidy up the planet then choosing to only show part of the post to the feed would be a way to do that , then see what happens when people have to click to see more :P.

People know what they are doing, and if people want to show their posts on different blogs thats again their choice , they arent hurting anyone at all, if a store wants to use all avenues to get the word out about a product , again their choice.

SOME PEOPLE :O shock horror , look at the feed once a day OMG waits till you all stop shaking, so for them they see what is up at that time, and may never ever see that a store uses all avenues or that a blogger shows part of a post on one blog and full on another.

As for taking bad picture :| we all had to start somehow , to put down people trying to be creative and learn isn’t fair , I look back at appearance mode sometimes and think OMG how did anyone want me to show their products my pics sucked, but I hope I have gotten better, but I had to learn, I have to grow , just like anyone else.

You all forget what kind of damage these things can cause to people , last time this subject was brought up I had people saying to me that they were scared to post their new items because a blogger posted them already , how the hell is that right ?

sorry makes me cranky, but if you don’t like it how it is don’t go there, add all the blogs you do give a damn about to your own bookmarks and rss feed subscribe whatever all that jargon is, and look them up one by one yourself.

I’ve wondered about this one myself. I’ve done close to 250 posts and not once have I ever come up at the top. Bu then I see certain bloggers posting and staying at the top while everyone else filters down under them.

  14. by Phoenix Chapman, on 07.05.08 @ 11:04 am

This is a designer posting her stuff, not a blogger….a designer keeps manipulating the time on her post to make sure it stays on the top. Her time zone has nothing to do with it, she’s not changing anything to her posts. The only thing that changes is the time that the post was made. And it’s fucking desperate.

I’m not debating the issue at hand, simply saying it was poorly handled. I’m amazed that people can’t go to the person they are mad at and say “hey, you know it’s kind of annoying that your posts always are on top… It means that all our posts get bumped down. Is there anyway you can change how you have your settings? I know I would really appreciate in and I’m sure others would too!”

Sorry, but I still believe you get more bees with honey. Treat others how you want to be treated. Sasy is the least calculating person I know. It’s a shame you couldn’t have just talked to her.

  16. by Phoenix Chapman, on 07.05.08 @ 11:21 am

It’s not about Sasy. I said “designer” - Sasy has not pretended to be a designer so far as I know, she just works for them.

I’ve talked with Sasy, and she knows who this post is about - she knew before I told her. She knows it was never meant to be about her, and her latest blog post is not about me either. We’re fine.

Alexa, this person is deliberately changing her blog post times. It’s not a matter of “settings”.

Thank you Phoenix, I appreciate the clarification :)

seconds that , it was never about me :o) Phoenix would have donked me on the head if it was lol my rant was just simmering for too long and today it boiled over
